In 1995, I began my yoga journey as an educator of children with special needs. One of my greatest concerns was to encourage my students to realize their true potential. I applied my experience as a professional dancer to introduce them to movement and the performing arts. Yet, I needed more. Three years into developing my own practice, I decided to complete the Yoga for the Special Child certification.
My goal was to infuse yoga with the academic curriculum. I wanted more than anything to help my students elevate their own self-fulfilling expectations. Yoga was the ideal tool to encourage the recognition of inner strength and feelings of empowerment they so needed.
Fast forward twelve years, while continuing to teach yoga in the classroom setting, I witnessed the many successes yoga provided. Yoga created opportunities for my students to develop self-esteem, build confidence, improve focus, and practice social responsibility.
What I noticed was that they were better equipped to manage their impulses and engage in conflict resolution. I knew then it was time for me to teach the practice to adults. I began my 200hr Prana Yoga Teacher Training in 2008, primarily to introduce yoga to diverse communities.
My hope and commitment to engage the underserved in the practice of yoga has a longevity of over twenty years. I've become interested in so many areas of yoga training. Presently, I have been inspired to teach those who have achieved 50 years of age and beyond. With each diverse set of physical challenges, yoga has provided them with a powerful means of enhancing their quality of life and building community.
My intention is to share what I know to be true ... that yoga is a transformative journey of deep discovery, empowerment and growth, that should be accessible to all. I am most grateful for the gifts I have received and the opportunities in which to share them.
I offer gentle yoga as a healing modality through private, semi-private & corporate yoga instruction. I am registered with Yoga Alliance. I offer these special workshops & integrative classes: Shakti Yoga Dance Workshop, Private & Semi-Private Gentle Yoga, Yoga for 50 Plus Gentle Practice, Tibetan Sound Healing, Chakra & Crystal Clearing sessions.
